Edinburgh, from the inside

Leith · Holyrood · The Royal Mile · The Castle

Three days in the capital, opened by the people who know it best. Step aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, walk the Palace of Holyroodhouse before the doors open, see the Crown Jewels of Scotland and dine within Edinburgh Castle to the sound of a harp. A herald reads the symbols of St Giles’ Cathedral, Charles MacLean MBE pours the whiskies he has spent a lifetime writing about, and the city’s finest jewellers, designers and chefs open their doors privately.

Two nights at The Balmoral, Edinburgh. A third night is easily added.

Dornoch · Brora · Tain · Cabot Highlands

Between rounds come private visits to Brora, The Dalmore and Glenmorangie, lunch at Dunrobin Castle and the dolphins of Chanonry Point. Those who prefer not to play have a full programme of their own, from falconry to fishing with a ghillie.

By helicopter, private boat and ferry, the journey follows the west coast from the Isle of Skye to Oban, with private visits to Talisker, Torabhaig, Ardnamurchan, Tobermory and Oban, and time between them for castles, beaches and the sea. Every day has an equally rewarding plan for those who prefer not to drink whisky.

Whisky by private air

Islay · Jura · Speyside · Royal Deeside

Two islands, two private flights and a journey measured in casks rather than miles. A private aircraft carries you from London to Islay for the great peated distilleries, and a second flight lifts you to the Cairngorms, between Speyside and Royal Deeside. A dram from a 1979 vintage cask at Port Ellen, a cask draw at Caol Ila, a bespoke day at The Macallan and fireside drams at Royal Lochnagar, with wild picnics, Highland music and private chefs around them.

Two nights on a private estate on Jura, then three nights in an exclusive-use lodge in the Cairngorms.
